Connecticut Wealth Management (CTWM) is partnering with the University of Connecticut (UConn) School of Business to launch the school’s first-ever wealth management cohort. CTWM is contributing $75,000 to create an experiential learning program designed to develop the next generation of financial advisors.

Open to undergraduate students of all majors and class levels, the Connecticut Wealth Management Cohort provides immersive exposure to financial planning, pairing academic knowledge with hands-on applications. The program also aims to build momentum toward establishing a formal wealth management minor at UConn, a track currently unavailable.
“This partnership is about building a pathway that hasn’t existed before,” said Kevin Leahy, President & CEO of CTWM. “We are deeply committed to a long-term collaboration with UConn—not just to support students, but to help develop better financial advisors wherever their careers take them. Connecticut students deserve access to high-quality preparation in this growing field, and we believe this program will help keep their talent and energy in this state.”
CTWM’s three-year commitment will support technology training and hands-on experiences, ensuring students gain the practical skills needed to excel in the profession.
The new cohort not only supports the development of technical knowledge but also fosters connections with industry mentors, internships, and real-world career opportunities. By making financial planning education accessible to more students, the program opens doors to an impactful profession, one centered on helping individuals and families pursue their goals.
Nora Madjar, the School of Business’ Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs, said UConn’s expertise in finance education pairs well with a focus on wealth management. She said there is tremendous student excitement around the pursuit of wealth-management careers.
“Connecticut Wealth Management is providing the support and resources to create real industry exposure for these students and prepare them with real-world experience and mentorship. This is a great initiative, in line with the current trends on how to prepare students for the workplace. Providing the mentorship and resources to network with certified financial planners is exactly what our students need to gain insights and solid preparation for their future careers,” she said.
This program underscores CTWM’s mission of turning aspirations into reality—for clients, team members, and now, the next generation of financial professionals.
“We really believe this program will be genuinely impactful for students, the University, our industry, our firm, and the state of Connecticut,” said Leahy. “It’s been a long-time goal of ours, and we’re so excited to have it come to fruition.”
The program officially kicked off with a launch event on October 2, 2025, at the UConn School of Business Lounge, bringing together students, faculty, and industry leaders to celebrate this innovative new pathway.
